Laura Varas is CEO and Founder of Hearts & Wallets. Laura is a thought leader in identifying retirement and investment industry trends. Her background combines line operating experience with consumer marketing and strategy consulting. Prior to founding Hearts & Wallets, at Fidelity Investments, Laura led the product management and development team for retail equity funds, and held leadership roles in marketing stock plan services and rollover. At Citibank’s Latin American Consumer Bank she held diverse roles in branch expansion, consumer segments and investment solutions. Earlier roles with Colgate Palmolive, Grey Advertising and Mercer Management Consulting honed her analytical and creative skills. She has a B.A. in economics from Yale University and an MBA with concentrations in strategy, marketing and decision sciences from the Kellogg School at Northwestern University.
Adam Mackler is a Senior Vice President of Engineering. Adam brings 20+ years of experience in software development and the practice of law. His background includes software development at start-ups and independently, especially using scala, java, sql and r. A member of Mensa, Adam holds a BA from University of Southern California, an MA from University of Pennsylvania Annenberg School and a JD from Seattle University.
Beth Olmsted is a Vice President and Relationship Manager. Beth brings over ten years of financial services and investment experience. She began her career at Fidelity Investments as a registered financial representative for the retail business, moving over to Fidelity Capital Markets as an analyst supporting the fixed income, securities lending and prime brokerage units. At RMR Group, a public real estate investment firm, Beth managed an investor relations program working with retail and institutional investors and Wall Street analysts. Most recently, she worked in client relations at Berkshire Group, a private real estate investment firm, where she was involved in capital raising and product development. She holds a B.A. in Economics from St. Lawrence University.
Liz Dow is a Vice President and Relationship Manager. Liz has over 10 years of experience as a financial advisor. Prior to working with Hearts & Wallets, Liz was a financial advisor at Wells Fargo and Merrill Lynch. She holds a BA from Hobart and William Smith College.
Amber Katris is a Product Champion. Amber has over ten years of accounting and finance experience in global corporations. She teaches college level business courses in accounting and is a licensed CPA. She holds a BS in Accounting from Purdue University and an MBA from the Kellogg School of Management.
Katherine Nygren is a Product Champion. Katherine brings over 20 years of marketing experience in consumer goods and financial services. Prior to working with Hearts & Wallets, Katherine was head of International Marketing for TransUnion. She also held roles at Citibank and American Airlines. Katherine holds a BA in Spanish from the University of Illinois and an MBA from the Kellogg School of Management in marketing and international business.
Betsy Seeley is a Product Champion. Betsy brings 25+ years of customer-focused financial services experience to Hearts & Wallets. Her background includes developing and executing innovative operating strategies to build advice and guidance delivery operations, at TIAA-CREF and Voya Retirement. In senior leadership roles, including at Citicorp Diners Club and athenahealth, she led strategies to improve Net Promoter Score, distinctiveness and client satisfaction scores, building scalable and profitable process and technology platforms. She is a Certified Scrum Product Owner and received her undergraduate degree in Literature from Middlebury College and her MBA from Harvard University.
Lynn Walters is a Public Relations Consultant for Hearts & Wallets. She is a seasoned professional with over 25 years of experience as a communications consultant and former journalist with The Boston Globe. Lynn has worked closely with the financial services sector, including the commercial services group of Bank of America (Fleet) during numerous mergers and acquisitions. Lynn led public relations as Vice President of Leonard/Monahan, a recognized creative leader within the advertising industry. Earlier in her career, she managed the editorial team at FM Global, the world’s largest business property insurer. She holds a B.A. in Communications from Wake Forest University and an MS in journalism from the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism.
